About the Founder

Joshua Waks, NVS, RVT

My love of complex cerebral hemodynamics started when I entered the medical field in 2011 and its complexity is what initially attracted me to neurosonology. Since 2018, I’ve been immersed in neurovascular ultrasound, and have achieved the Neurovascular Specialist (NVS) designation from the American Society of Neuroimaging.

My neurovascular career began in Seattle, at Harborview Medical Center, one of the preeminent cerebrovascular labs in the country. I quickly learned how and why TCDs are known as the most complex vascular ultrasound exams to perform, and that learning to perform them correctly takes time.

The idea for NVL Solutions came about after being hired as a technologist to establish TCD exams for the University of New Mexico Hospital. One year later it became the first and only accredited lab for TCDs in the state.

In a field I love, I’ve trained residents, fellows, vascular sonographers, and EEG techs in the scanning and interpretation of neurovascular ultrasound exams. I currently serve as honoraria instructor at the Wake Forest School of Medicine neurovascular sonography program. I’ve lectured at local schools and have presented at ultrasound society meetings. I’ve formed great relationships with neuro-critical care providers, and made some friends along the way.

NVL Solutions is the culmination of both my love of performing neurovascular ultrasound exams and teaching. Assisting institutions in providing these exams for the betterment of patient care and their community is the purpose of my company.
